The results
Despite a 70% growth over 2023, the 5G market expanded slowly in 2024, with Italian companies’ spending on industrial 5G estimated at a modest €14.5 million. Despite its importance and strategic role, connectivity represents only 7% of the total ICT budget.
Furthermore, the 5G & Beyond Observatory has mapped 198 publicly announced private 5G network projects in Europe, a 21% increase over 2023. Including confidential projects, the total number in Europe is estimated at nearly 500. Italy accounts for about 7% of active projects in Europe.
A wider adoption requires a shift in focus from businesses, viewing connectivity as an enabler of digital innovation, and a supply ecosystem that goes beyond mere connectivity.
